Triton Pontoon Boats :
Triton has been building boats for over a decade, and they have had success in the aluminum, pontoon and fiberglass sectors, not only in salt water but also with a large share of the bass-boat market, thanks to their performance and user-friendly, feature-oriented products. Their new 281 Center Console is a good example of the design, engineering and construction philosophy that has brought much of that success to the company.
We tested the new 281CC in the Florida Keys on a nice April day with the folks from Lighthouse Marine, the Upper Keys Triton Boats dealer. Powered by twin Mercury 300-hp Verado four-strokes, the 281 is plenty fast, reaching a top speed of 65 mph, and the boat is also nimble when responding to the driver's commands. She has a sharp entry forward to keep her from banging, and that transitions to a 20-degree transom deadrise. Good lifting strakes help get her up on top and keep the water down to reduce spray.
